Phinest takes care of photography and it is highly committed in preserving each of its piece of art and photographer’s value. In order to do that and differ from the mass production, Phinest melts into high-quality materials. Moreover, all Phinest artworks are numerated and produced in limited edition, not overpassing a few sets of ten, an issue that helps to create an exclusive piece of art.
In order to testify the authenticity of the artworks and its edition, an official Certificate of Authenticity accompanies every piece of art, including name of the artist, title of the artwork, edition number, year of reproduction, dimensions, support, the handmade artist’s signature, and finally, Phinest Gallery’s signature and stamp.
Thanks to the Certificate of Authenticity, to estimate the value of a photograph it becomes easier than in the past, when prints could have been printed and reprinted repeatedly, as long as we had the raw files. On the contrary, if only a few set of copies are available, the price increases as much as the number of copies diminishes. This is the reason why we suggest our artists to keep their edition short. Usually, an edition of 100 or more pieces cannot be called a limitation. From 5 to 20 copies, we are dealing with classic limited editions, whereas for 1 to 5 copies, we get closer to the one-of-a-kind edition, almost original photograph.
What does Limited Edition mean?
It means that photographs are available in a limited number of copies. It is the photographer, together with the art gallery to decide the edition of the artworks. The maximum quantity of copies decided per photograph cannot be modified, neither by Phinest nor by the photographer. Once the last copy has been sold, the artwork will be no more available. Phinest will regularly update its Webpage with the number of copies still available. In addition, Phinest certificates high quality reproduction of the artwork, an issue that stands for high artistic level within the international photo art community.
In order to guarantee the high exclusivity and optimization of Phinest’s prints, each of them is numerated and produced in limited edition, not overpassing a few sets of ten.
If possible, we prefer to provide edition of 5 copies in order to make pictures be unique. In so doing, it will be easier to guarantee the edition and the value of every artwork, its production and the artist’s value.
The number of copies will refer to the total amount of photographs, no matter the size and dimension we decide to offer, that could be different ones. For example, if we choose to produce a limited edition of 5 photographs, there could be one and only size for all, or different sizes per photograph, but they will always be 5 copies.
Speaking about photography, limited edition is not to be taken for granted. And this is even truer, if we refer to the contemporary art world, now undergoing an intensive market movement. Indeed, if the limited edition could be common and clear as far as paintings are concerned, not all photographers are aware of the importance the limited edition represents in the art market. Most of the times, photographers hardly control the reproduction of their artwork, they print and reprint again as long as they have the raw file.
On the contrary, the importance of a limited edition production is increasing more and more, particularly now that the market for limited photography is booming and demand is increasing.
Furthermore, advantages of certificated production are to be seen both for photographers and collectors.
Advantages for the photographer
Thanks to the Certificate of Authenticity, the artists has the opportunity to proof the limitation in reproduction of the work of art. As a consequence, the work will differ from mass production. The photographer could take control of his/her artistic sales, and his/her artworks will increase their value, both from the economic and artistic point of view.
Advantages for the Art Collector
As stated above, nowadays it is easier to evaluate a photo and its value if we are dealing with Limited Edition pieces of art. The limitation of the photograph represents one of the most important issues when considering its value. By relying on the lifelong Certification of Authenticity, the buyer could be sure about the limited edition of the artwork as well as its authenticity.
Limited edition is quite an important and interesting issue both for the photographer and the buyer/art collector. It has to do with high quality photography, as well as with the respect and preservation of art, a cause Phinest stands in favour of.
